39 Nominees shortlisted for the Design Management Europe Award 2008
On the 19th of June, 39 European companies and organisations were selected by an international jury of business and design management experts for the Design Management Europe Award 2008. The DME Award (the first of its kind) recognises the critical role of management in the successful implementation of design and innovation and aims at promoting best practices to a wide audience.
The University of Wales Institute Cardiff (UWIC) hosted the DME Award jury session that determined the winning selection of companies and organisations for seven categories. The jury consisted of notable business and design management experts from Europe and the USA, including Sir George Cox, ex Director General of the Institute of Directors and Author of the Cox report; Dr. Thomas Lockwood, President of the Design Management Institute in the USA; Dr. Maarit Lindström, Economist for the Central Chamber of Commerce of Finland; Professor Erik Jan Hultink of Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands; Stephen Conlon of DMM Ireland; Professor Saša Janez Mächtig of University of Ljubljana, Slovenia; independent consultant Xènia Viladàs, Spain; and Anna Wróblewska of Vox Industries, Poland.

Unique view of current state-of-the-art design management practices
The DME Award 2008 attracted 203 registrations from 22 countries and among the companies selected are notable entries such as Virgin Atlantic, TNT post, KTM power Sports, Roca, Eva Danmark, Senz Umbrellas, EDF, Madara Cosmetics, City of Amsterdam, RATP, SoBor and The National Patient Safety Agency of the NHS who are short listed for the second year. Coordinator for the jury day, Darragh Murphy of the National Centre for Product Design & Development Research (UWIC) commented: “The exhibition of entrants was a great success with the jury and gives us a unique view of the current state-of-the-art design management practices across Europe.”
The winners of the DME Award will be announced at a gala ceremony at the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff (UK) on the 13th October 2008. The event will be a central event of the Cardiff Design Festival.
